[31 August 2022] AMPYR Solar Europe (ASE) is delighted to announce that its 29.9MW solar farm and 20MW battery storage system near Dunfermline has been granted planning consent by Fife Council.

The site is located on a fully-remediated, former open-cast coal mine and ASE is pleased to have had strong collaboration with the landowner, I & H Brown. While the site will be connected to the national grid at the Townhill substation, options to supply energy to local users with a high demand through a ‘private wire’ configuration are also being explored.

The solar farm will provide enough energy to power 6,500 homes at peak power and the associated battery storage will facilitate storage and supply of power to help balance the grid. The project will help support Fife Council’s Climate Emergency Declaration and contribute towards the Scottish Government’s 2045 net-zero emissions target. Construction will start next year, with the site expected to be operational by the end of 2023.

Mark Wood, UK head of AMPYR Solar Europe, commented: “We are very pleased indeed not only to have secured this consent but also by the level of support in Dunfermline for this proposal. Dunfermline solar energy park is one of a number of renewable energy projects ASE is investing in and developing in Scotland and the strong commitment of the Scottish Government and Fife Council to renewable energy has given us great confidence to support their journey towards a zero-carbon future and greater energy security for all.”

David Bell Planning Ltd has led on the site feasibility and planning application and has been instrumental in helping to develop a site that is not only sympathetic to its surroundings but which will also enhance the local natural environment.

The site is discreet, with the layout and design developed to further mitigate any visual impact through landscape and planting. The project includes an active habitat management plan, wildflower meadows between the panels, planting of a native hedgerow and a scattered tree line. These enhancements will help to boost biodiversity while the area under the panels will continue to be used for grazing.

About AMPYR Solar Europe

Headquartered in London and Maastricht, AMPYR Solar Europe (“ASE”) was created through the merger of NaGa Solar with the existing Ampyr Energy UK solar joint venture between Singapore-based AGP and global energy and commodity trading company Hartree Partners. Together, they created a major European Solar Enterprise with a combined pipeline of more than 5GW of large-scale solar projects in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. In the UK alone, ASE has 200MW of grid-connected sites and 75MW of private wire in development.

ASE’s operating model is to develop, construct and operate a major portfolio of solar power generation assets. The merged company brings together AGP’s experience in developing large-scale renewable power projects, Hartree’s cutting edge power trading analytics and zero-carbon solutions with NaGa’s in-depth local knowledge and land development capability. Combining these complementary skills will speed up the build out of solar capacity and offers an attractive opportunity for institutional investors to deploy capital. ASE has already secured €400 million from CarVal investors to develop and construct a pipeline of European solar assets.
